Meditation

Meditation is the practice and experience of bringing peace and calm. It is the process of bringing stillness and quiet to a busy, noisy and often restless mind. Our minds are often so busy with thoughts, emotions, desires and attachments that we rarely experience true moments of peace. Beyond the noise and chatter is a part of us that is detached, observing and aware of all that goes on in and around us. This is our true Self, a part of us that is timeless and enduring.

If the mind were an ocean, thoughts can be thought of as waves. Sometimes they create a soft ripple and we are unfazed, remaining calm. Other times there is turbulence, it feels as if we may be overwhelmed or carried away by our thoughts. Engulfed and desperate to reach out beyond the chaos. Meditation returns us to the vast openess of our mind that is as deep as it is wide. We'll never be rid of thoughts, that is not the goal of meditation, we just ride the storm, enjoy the calm and hope for longer periods of serenity.
